Placebo Effect is a "StarFox"-inspired space-shooter-type game, but with a Fantastic Voyage story that also incorporates ideas like positive visualization and mind/body imagery to support personal health. As for gameplay, were heavily inspired by classic games from the past like StarFox, Super Mario Brothers, King's Quest, the Legend of Zelda and want to incorporate great mechanics like flying, exploring, puzzle solving and great shooter action but all used in a new way. This is the kind of project that we feel is very important for evolving video gaming beyond simple entertainment!

Please note, all screen-shots and footage are currently from the game in a pre-alpha state.

More on game mechanics:

We are going to make this a game with great fast-paced flying action like StarFox, item gathering and adventure elements like The Legend of Zelda and King's Quest, and puzzle solving like Super Mario 64.

We also plan to add some important health information related to the game scenario before each level, to inform the player and give context for the game. For example, you might be informed that "doctors have found a new compound in a certain plant that has been found to fight infections and now you must seek out that molecule to use against the enemy".

We also want to add some fun physical dynamics to the gameplay. For example, as your heart rate increases during certain game sequences, the increased pulse will cause the blood flow to alter the piloting characteristics of your ship, adding to the challenge.

We will make achievements for all kinds of feats such as destroying a certain number of enemies, completing a level within a certain time limit, performing special moves both offensive and defensive, etc.

We also plan to add more enemies and more textures, weapons, and power-ups to vary the experience. We want the environments to be really organic and unique!
